Second Amendment

"Rated "A" by National Rifle Association (NRA)

I fully support this and every part of the U.S. Constitution. When it says our right to “keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,” it means that right should not be chipped away by many small laws that, together, amount to a huge infringement upon Americans’ rights.

I fully support gun rights. I strongly support hunting. However, gun rights are not just about hunting; more importantly, they are about self defense.

Neither the United Nations nor the federal or state government nor any other power should be allowed to infringe upon Montanans’ right to keep and bear arms.

Abortion

pro-life bills in 2009 Montana legislative session

I am proud to be endorsed by Montana Right to Life

Did you know that right now in Montana there are absolutely no restrictions on abortion, up to the moment of labor? Did you know that you as a parent in Montana have absolutely no right to know if your teenaged daughter seeks an abortion?

I oppose abortion, especially abortion-as-birth-control and partial birth and late term abortion.

That said, until we can achieve common-sense restrictions on abortion in Montana, I support the parents' right to at least be informed if their minor
daughter seeks an abortion.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research

I oppose embryonic stem cell research, as it has yielded little to no scientific value in spite of destroying many tiny human lives. Meanwhile, non-destructive alternatives such as cord blood research and practices using adult stem cells that do not harm the cell donor have yielded excellent results. At this point, it is only common sense to oppose barbaric embryonic stem cell research.

Taxes

When taxes are lower, businesses and individuals can invest more in their communities and the state prospers. That’s why I fully support lowering taxes and eliminating unfair taxes.

Education

I strongly support both public education and home schooling. I oppose unfunded federal mandates. I believe more control of education should rest with the parents, teachers, local districts and states than with the federal government. Because of my work with the Council for Exceptional Children, education is a topic that is particularly close to my heart. I would also like to see our state pay its teachers more, and I believe we can accomplish this, as Wyoming has, by developing our natural resources and boosting our state’s economy.

Energy

I strongly support the development of natural resources for energy as well as increasing the production of alternative, natural energy sources in Montana.

I'll work to open up our natural resources for development so that our state can enjoy the prosperity Wyoming and North Dakota have right now. Montana has vast resources, but we are hamstrung by our own law and tax situation. When we open up our own resources for responsible development, our economy will take off, there will be an increase in better-paying jobs and more revenue coming in. We will be able to pay our teachers more without having to add to the tax burden of our citizens.

I also support developing alternative energy. Whether it’s wind, ethanol, solar power, biodiesel, or other natural energy sources, I will encourage development that makes sense in Montana.

Agriculture

Proud to be endorsed by Taylor Brown, President, Northern Ag Network

I come from an agricultural background and wholeheartedly support Montana’s farmers and ranchers. In recent years, it has become more and more difficult for small family farms and ranches to prosper and for young people to get started in farming and ranching. This needs to change. We need to do all that we can in the Montana legislature to allow agriculture to prosper in our state.

 Property Rights

I support private property rights 100%. Private property rights are foundational to our nation. I oppose government monuments, regulations, and other impositions that infringe upon Montanans’ private property rights.
